Frequently asked questions
Answers to the things people ask us most about joining, membership, safety and pace. If yours is not here, our support team is available 24/7.
Joining
Who can join?
Widows and widowers living in the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. Whether your loss was recent or long ago, you are welcome. Our about page tells you more.
Is it free to join?
Yes. Creating an account and a full profile is free, and so is browsing members and receiving daily match suggestions. You can upgrade later if you want more.
How do I get started?
Create your free profile, look at your matches, and chat when you feel ready. There is no rush at any step.
Do I have to be looking for a relationship?
No. Some members want friendship or conversation, and others hope for a new relationship. You choose what you are looking for and can change your mind.
Free and VIP
What is the difference between free and VIP?
Free (Classic) members can build a profile, browse, get daily matches, post, comment, join polls and quizzes, and send a limited number of messages each day. VIP adds unrestricted messaging, advanced search filters, chat rooms, private group chats and more. VIP+ adds extra visibility tools. See the features page for the full list and the pricing pages for costs.
Can free members reply to VIP messages?
Yes. Classic members can read and reply to messages from VIP and VIP+ members.
Privacy and safety
Who can see my details?
Your real name and email are never shown publicly. Other members see your nearest town or city, never your exact address.
What is ID verification?
It is a free, optional check that confirms you are a real person. If you complete it, a badge appears on your profile. You do not have to do it, and not every member will have. Admin profile validation and video verification are other ways to show you are genuine, without sending sensitive documents.
How do I meet someone safely?
Take your time, keep chatting on the site at first, meet in a public place, tell a friend where you are going, and never send money. Our safety page has more.
How do I block or report someone?
You can block any member instantly, and they will no longer be able to contact or see you. You can also report members or content from within the site. Our support team is available 24/7 if you want to talk it through.
What is a romance scam, and how do I spot one?
It is when someone pretends to care for you in order to get money. Warning signs include asking for money, urging you to move to another app, and refusing to meet or video chat. See the glossary and never send money to anyone you have met online.
Grief and pace
How do I know if I am ready?
Only you can say. Many people find there is no right time, and grief and hope can sit side by side. Our blog article on knowing when you are ready may help. Read it on our blog.
Is it normal to feel guilty or sad when I join?
Yes, very. Many members feel both nervous and hopeful. You can go slowly, pause whenever you like, and talk to others in the community who understand. If feelings feel too heavy, speak to your doctor or a bereavement support service.
Countries and your account
Which countries do you cover?
We welcome members in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. For example, see our page for widowed dating in the UK.
Is there an app?
You can use the site in your desktop browser or as a mobile web app that you add to your phone's home screen. Native iOS and Android apps are available in selected markets.
Can I cancel my membership?
You can manage or cancel your membership from your account. If you need a hand, our support team is available 24/7.
Still wondering?
The easiest way to find out is to have a look. Creating a profile is free.
